ATLANTA HAWKS SCOUTING REPORT
SCREEN/ROLL COVERAGE
REPORT
They will give you pressure on the ball and funnel you into deep drives to the rim to face Capela/Okongwu. Both of them are very good rim protectors. Capela does more of his stops closer to the rim ad Okongwu does a little more chasing and can stay in front away from the rim and then make an effort for the block/alter of your shot. Young doesn’t guard anyone will make minimum effort and mostly die on screens. Murray/Bagdonovic make much better efforts pressuring you as well as Jalen Johonson. They do a good job contesting deep shots as well as protecting the rim. As you will see in the next film I think there are Mid Range Deep floater opportunities for sure and in specific matchups you can get to the rim. With Murray he does a good job getting through screens and making an effort. Keep your dribble and use your screens when he is guarding you. I would try to get him on your back on snakes. He is smart and has size/length. Young just body him and be physical as he definitely doesn’t want to guard anyone.
SCORING ON THEM IN SCREEN ROLL
REPORT
The way that you score against Atlanta’s Screen Roll Defense is to attack their guards and get into the paint. Young will die on screens instantly giving you an advantage there. Murray will pursue but doesn’t really keep in front of the ball handler well especially when being attacked and screened. Bogdonovic is the best of the 3 getting through screens and also is smart with deflections. There will be a ton of mid range shots as well as deep floaters agains them when Capela is at the 5. He usually floats in the paint on coverage, but selectively will be closer to the screen at times, he pursues , but cant really stay in front of guys he backs up a lot opening up floaters and jumpers as his weight shifts back. If they switch him on to you, do not let him off the hook. Bring him out and attack him. Change directions if he is at the level of the screen and force him to move side to side that is his weakness. Capela is very good at the rim but can be attacked. The more you can bring him out the better for you. With Okongwu he has better foot speed and is active at the rim. They tend to ball watch on the weak side so drives in the paint pulling the big up and making plays to the perimeter for shots or dump downs to your 5 in the dunker or roamers are in play. Don’t be indecisive and dont jus dribble around for tough shots. Keep them moving and guessing. Be on the attack and be aggressive.
OPENINGS FOR 3 POINT SHOTS
REPORT
Drive kick 3PT shots off the ball is open. Spot up with ball movement 3PT shots as well. They don’t do a good job with off ball firing out to 3 Point shooters. Like most teams they ball watch, take advantage of it. Continue to push the envelope with transition pull ups, transition ball fake /shoot, and shoot behind hand off/screen rolls when the defender goes under. No hesitation.

OFFENSE
REPORT
High frequency Pick and Roll Player. Wants to get to his 3PT shot on screen roll or spot up or mid range shots at the elbow from the pull up, or his floater. Shot selection is sketchy, will pull up from beyond deep. Streaky shooter, not elite and will take a lot of bad shots has no conscience. One of the best floater shooters in the league making 49% of his floaters, but ironically enough one of the worst finishers at the rim for any starting PG in the NBA. In my opinion, I would go under on his deep screens , especially in transition. Like the other PG’s just get to his hip and show hands. Every shot he takes needs to be contested and keep him off the FT Line (Averaging 8.5 Attempts a Game). I think players make the biggest mistakes is they keep changing the way they play him. He’s a low efficient player that is also high turnover. Keep him off the line and don’t give him wide open looks. Everything is contested and don’t leave your feet on his shots/fakes . Keep him dribbling around he will throw the ball away or a tough shot. Stay solid with him.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Young will throw the ball all over the place. Tries to make the Home Run Play on every possession. Keep him dribbling around he will throw cross court passes, look ahead passes, lobs, or leaving feet and looking for openings in the air. Most of his turnovers will come from trying to throw lobs to the roller in pick and roll. Teams like to stunt the big at him and when he leaves his feet they back up towards the rim and deflect his lobs. Keep to his hip, don’t foul , and constantly have hands in passing lanes to get deflections. He throws the ball everywhere and has no conscience for shot selection as well as passes..

Efficient scorer plays off of Young’s Screen roll and kicks for 3Pt shots as well as screen and roll. Loves going left and is physical off of drives likes to bump and elbow the defender for bump jumpers in the paint. Shoots close to 40% from 3PT and is shooting 45% from 3PT in the last 10 games. Shot selection is solid takes a lot of mid range pull ups and floaters. I would push him right, wants to get back to his left hand. Doesn’t get to the line a lot, mostly lives on screen roll scores, spot up offense. Average finisher at the rim. I would just push him right and stay on your feet and just force him into contested looks. Be careful with the bumps and sell the contact. Loves to bump as well as spin on his drives. show hands and don’t lunge.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Murray is pretty good with the ball, not a big turnover guy. The two biggest ways that you can take advantage of his turnovers is off the ball swipes when he drives on a teammate in your vicinity. Have active hands and take advantage of him not paying attention on is drives. He does turn the ball over on drives where off ball defenders are active on getting to his ball. He does extend the elbow on his bumps on drives I think you can force him into an early foul or two when he bumps on his screen roll drives. Just like the previous guards, stay on his hips and show hands. No reaching fouls and defend his jumpers with no fouling.

Spot up wing that lives off of spot ups and coming off pin downs. Tough and rugged, will get a lot of 3PT shots up on drive and kick spot ups as well as him on the move from hand Offs or just relocating or respecting for a 3PT shot. Operates out of the wings the most. Likes to jab and shoot the 3Pt shot as well as Jab and drive left from that right wing. Doesn’t get to the FT Line a lot, more of a spot up shooter or a driver for a floater. Can use his right/left on drives. High IQ scorer. Shoots almost 9 3PT Shots a game. Uses fakes and his footwork to create space. He is a smart player that is rugged and physical. Very simplistic player that knows how to create space and play off the ball. If you trail him on the wide pins he will attack the basket. Solid floater, just an average/above average scorer at the rim. Don’t overreact to his jab on the right wing, because he wants to get to the drive going left.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Low turnover player. Two things that he tends to have some issues with is when he tries to be over creative in making plays for others. He’s not a creative player with making plays for others. Will make extra passes, but not someone will be creative in screen rolls or passes in tight spots. Also on deep drives when he leaves his feet he tends to get passes deflected etc. Hands up on his drives and look to try to get deflections.

Looking for straight line drives , not a 3PT shooter hasn’t made one all year up to date. Good size and length to get his shot off in the paint. Good athlete and likes to initiate contact and bump before shooting the ball. Mostly operates out of screen roll off the bench or straight line drive off of a spot up. Not a high priority or high usage. Play off of him entice into a jumper you can get charges off of him he drives it hard.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Doesn’t struggle with particular things. Deep drives sometimes can get him on the baseline and get into some trouble. He doesn’t try to do too much and get in trouble. Puts his head down and looks to barrel into the paint/rim area. stay alert off the ball for charges.
