CLEVELAND CAVALIERS SCOUTING REPORT
SCREEN/ROLL COVERAGE
REPORT
They get into the ball funneling you into Allen. Not a lot of great individual defenders but they are disciplined with being active into the ball handlers and forcing you into a tough contested shot. They fight through screens and contest a high number of jumpshots. Allen is a good defender and a great rebounder, but just an average shot blocker at best. He does a good job keeping you in front of him and will pursue and chase you down, but just ok with getting blocks at the rim. They will switch as well as keep the ball on the sideline in side screen/roll. Very well coached on defense, you will need to be disciplined with ball movement and using fakes to open up scoring opportunities against them. Levert/Mitchell/Merrill make good efforts on the ball with their defense.
SCORING ON THEM IN SCREEN ROLL
REPORT
You need to be aggressive and drive them. Set great screens and take the ball to the rim. Do not settle. They will force you into tough contested shots if you just settle for the first perimeter jumpshot that you see. Drive and kick them to death. You can score at the rim, as use straight line drive Allen. If you lay it up easy for him he can go get it, but if you make it hard fro him and change speeds and looks he will have a tough time stopping you. They are disciplined, but will breakdown with multiple passes and multiple screen and rolls to defend. Garland isn’t a strong defender and will die on screens. Strus gives good effort, but not a great defender also he goes for any fake you throw at him, keep that in mind.
OPENINGS FOR 3 POINT SHOTS
REPORT
They will give up 3Pt shots. A lot of corner 3PT shooting opportunities on drive and kicks. If you are aggressive on drives they will over help and there will be shots available. The ball must move, and your drives need to be deep in the paint to open up the back side for open shots. There are plenty of shots.

OFFENSE
REPORT
Explosive scorer that will dribble the shit out of the ball. Expect a high number of screen rolls and a lot of dribbles. Very efficient mid range pop up shooter. Lives on defenders lunging or leaving their feet and then making his move. Has a ball on a string with this crossovers and pull backs to get defenders leaning one way and him go another. Only shooting 34.5% from 3PT, but a much better shooter than the number shows. Still getting his legs from getting back from injury. Show ref hands on all drives and don’t bail him out with sending him to the line. Just stay attached to his hip, show hands, and contest every shot. He turns the ball over a lot and that is his weakness as you will see in the next segment of videos. The longer he has the ball in his hands the much higher chance of a turnover. One of the higher turnover players at his position averaging 3.6 per game.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
High Turnover guard. Doesn’t have good feel for making plays, especially in screen/roll in tight spaces. Push up on him and force him to be a playmaker. Get into his body and show hands on drives. The longer he has the ball in his hands the better chance he has in turning th mother fucker over. The more I watch him, the more I think that they should give him a sobriety test on the court. Talented player that can score, but not efficient with the ball. Leaves his feet a lot to try to find passes and it doesn’t go well. He’s going to throw it anywhere. Don’t bail him out with holding fouls or leaving our feet for anything.

Expect a high number of spot ups, hand offs and pin downs. Stay connected to him and stay on the ground go for zero fakes. Know where he is off the ball, gets his shots off quickly on the catch. Stay connected to the hip on his hand offs, and into the dribble anytime he puts the ball on the floor. Highest volume of shots come from the wings. He is mostly a solid off ball players that plays off of fakes and changing speeds etc. Contest everything and stay on your feet. Not a great player, just has decent size and is smart. Average finisher, mostly looking to get to his spot up shots from 3pt(attempting 7.4 on 34% shooting). Where he is dangerous is wide open shots and when defenders leave the feet and he opens up his drives.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Very loose with the ball, throws some passes that make you scratch your head. Only averaging 1.6 Turnovers a game, but will throw them away when you least expect it. If you are off the ball and he drives your direction give it a swipe as he is not a very string ball handler. If he puts the ball on the floor and you are defending him, you can turn him over.

REPORT
Expect a high number of screen rolls, isolations, and spot ups. Shoots 9 3PT shots a game, mostly off the dribble. Loves the stepback/pullback so expect it when he starts drives off ISO’s/Screen Roll. Get into his dribble on drives. Don’t bail him out with leaving your feet and fouling him. Don’t give him space or he will take advantage of it. Physical on drives likes to use his body. Shooting 65% at the rim sow when he gets there he is efficient doing so. Make sure you get a hand up and stay solid on his shots. Loose with the ball so show hands at all times and take a swipe at it. Off the ball if he drives your direction the ball is in play.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Loose with the ball. Most of his turnovers come from trying to make a dribble move and losing control of it. Show him pressure when you are on him and get up into his dribble. I would pressure him full court as he hates that. Will frustrate the shit out of him when defenders pick him up in the backcourt where he pushes off etc. A little loose on passes, but mostly off the dribble is his weakness.

Bigtime Spot up, Hand Off , Pin Down threat. Always moving to get to his jumper. Averaging 5.7 3PT attempts in only 16 minutes of play. Quick release and very efficient shooting 44% from 3PT. Stay connected to him if he is in the corner as they run him off a lot of hand offs to get to this 3PT shot. Contest everything and do not give him daylight. Always moving and very crafty getting his shot off. Changes his speeds very well on cuts to set his defender up. If you aren’t connected to him on his hand offs and pin downs the ball is all but in the air and all but in the net. Can’t hurt in you in many other ways but shooting the ball from deep.

Second Unit scorer. Scores mostly on screen rolls and isolation. Push up on his dribble as he is loose with the ball, but very effective and crafty. Loves driving right, especially in Mid Screen/Roll. Not against going left, but prefers right. Stay on the ground on his fakes as he uses a lot of them. Show hands on drives to not bail him out. Very high usage rate for a second unit player. He will get his shots up. Show hands on all drives and try to force deflections on his passes. Crafty scorer, loves to pop up and shoot jumpers in screen rolls as well as other drives. Stay connected and to his hip on screen roll. Stay Solid and non your feet.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Doesn’t protect the ball well on drives and gathers. You can get strips from him on his drives in the paint. Doesn’t try to make dumb passes he is pretty straight forward with playmaking, but if you are on him on drives and he is about to gather you can get your hand in there. If you are off the ball and he drives in your direction you can take a swipe as he is open to those types of turnovers.

Doesn’t look like much , but very efficient player. Lives off spot ups and getting to the basket on driving long closeouts or using fakes and defenders leaving their feet. Contest everything, he use this body very well on drives. Very smart player that can knock down spot up 3PT shots and just make the right play. Stay on your feet and contest everything. Shooting 36% from 3PT. Not a high usage player, but can definitely get hot and give them a spark with his shooting.
