DALLAS MAVERICKS SCOUTING REPORT
SCREEN/ROLL COVERAGE
REPORT
Doncic and Irving are the weak links to the defense. Irving will die on screens , but has a ridiculous basketball IQ for swiping to get steals, etc. They have 3 very good rim protectors with Gafford, Lively, and Kleber. They will put pressure on the ball and funnel everything to Gafford who usually is in a drop to protect the rim. You can attack them on screen and roll and get in the paint, you just have to navigate their rim protection as you will see one of their shot blockers and Kleber in the game at times for defensive purposes. Kleber, Washington, Jones, Jr, & Hardaway JR. usually switch on to the ball handler in screen and roll situations and they do a good job pressuring the ball and adding friction. Use your screeners and hand offs to penetrate their guards to force multiple defenders on the ball to create good offensive situations. They can be attacked and you can definitely score points agains them. Floater and mid range pull ups will definitely be options. With Vic being a lob threat or spacing on pops, you will be able to keep the bigs occupied to open up scoring.
SCORING ON THEM IN SCREEN ROLL
REPORT
You have to be aggressive driving their guards and penetrating. Irving and Luka will mostly die on screens and give limited resistance to save their energy on offense. Be overly aggressive with creating contact on defenders to clear space and pick up fouls. Force Irving/Doncic to use some energy guarding your drives to wear them down a little bit early, force them to guard. A lot of dribble kick opportunities and I think they will stay attacked to Vic giving you some scoring opportunities. I think you can score at the rim, but floaters will have to be used with Gafford/Lively. If you get Washington/Hardaway on a switch you definitely can attack the rim, even with Kleber just be aggressive on drive and finish opportunities. You have to live in the paint agains these guys to get them moving and rotating. Floater definitely will be in play. Take advantage of their bad defenders to get to their help. Ball needs to move.
OPENINGS FOR 3 POINT SHOTS
REPORT
They will give up a ton of drive and kick 3PT shots. The one goal has to be to attack time and time again. They will collapse and don’t get out to shooters great on drive and kick. On hand offs try to turn the corner to create opportunities for you to draw multiple defenders and kick out. Your corner spot up will be there multiple times if the ball moves. Force Irving/Luka to move their feet and guard and all of your drive and kicks space the floor and get your feet set for spot ups. I think you can get 4-5 looks from 3PT if the ball moves.

OFFENSE
REPORT
Heavy Isolation and screen/roll. Pick him up 94 feet he is not a fan of it especially over the whole game. Expect him to drive left to get to his stepback. You need to stay on your feet at all times!!. The key here is not to go for his fakes and even on his stepback stay on the ground as he likes to step through on his stepback to create contact. Contest everything and stay attached, but you need to SHOW THE REF YOUR HANDS on every drive. The guy is a genius with the ball in his hands at creating offensive opportunities for him and his teammates. You just have to make things hard for him. He will try to bully you and back him down so stand your ground ue your arm bar in the post but have to who hands immediately when he turns to shoot. Takes a ton of bad shots, but could be the best bad shot maker in the History of the NBA. Stay on your feet, show hands, and contest everything. Do not go for any fakes or jump up to get to his stepback. If he makes a tough shot or 7, don’t worry about it just keep at him. The goal is to pick him up full court, force him to shoot contested shots every time, and stay on your feet. SHOW HANDS!!
TURNOVERS
REPORT
He will throw lazy passes at times. Just stay connected and show hands. If you throw multiple bodies at him especially size he tends to throw the ball around loosely for turnovers at times. Keep picking him up full court!

One the more offensively gifted guards in the NBA. Expect a heavy dose of Screen/Rolls and Isolations as well as spotting up off of the ball. Having a great stretch of games. Make it as hard for him as possible. Pick him up and pressure him. Keep him going one direction the best you can take a way one direction and stay attached with active hands. Don’t bail him out with fouls. Stay on your feet and contest everything. Finishing at the rim at a 60% clip. Has every type of finish known to man. Just stay solid and stay on the ground. Don’t bail him out with reaches and lunges for anything. Stay in your stance and keep your hands off your sides.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Assist /TO 3.11 low turnover guy for the most part. Keep the pressure on him and stay solid. Active hands continue to pressure him and force him to over dribble. Will ge tally at times with the ball and his passing.

REPORT
Will see him in spot ups and screen roll. Solid player that is very efficient shooting 47% from 3PT and finishes at the rim at 62%. Stay solid with him and pressure him the best you can. Make it hard for him and just make sure you know where he is off the ball. Good cutter, aggressive with it at times so don’t lose site. Every shot is contested and don’t go for his fakes to open up his drive. Active hands and show them on drives and don’t leave your feet.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
His dribble can be attacked. Not a strong ball handler. Give him some swipes at times to fuck with his rhythm. Show him pressure, but definitely have active hands looking for steals especially back taps when he least expects it.

Loves tough shots and will take every single shot that he can. Physical guard looking to make contact on his drives so be ready for that. Will spot him up, run him off screen roll and loves to isolate. Force him left show hands on his drives and just contest everything. Strong and has size. Don’t leave your feet on his fakes just stay on the ground, show hands, and push up on him. Not a strong finisher, shooting 49% at the rim.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
He loves this drive and one handed pass. A player with ho arms can throw that one armed pass better than he can. Not a high turnover guy, but just keep him dribbling. The more he dribbles , the better chance of a turnover and mistake.

Pop up jump shooter. Shoots himself into/out of games , mostly out of games. Low Basketball IQ that flames out with his addiction to taking tough shots. Don’t go for any fakes and stay on your feet. Push him left, much less efficient shooting the ball on the left side of the floor than the right. Will take a ton of tough shots so just stay solid and keep him contested.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Dribbles himself into oblivion at times. Not a huge turnover guy, but his turnovers come from him dribbling the ball excessively. Play to his ego let him think he can do that. I would trust me unattended in an ice cream truck than him being an ISO scorer.
