DENVER NUGGETS SCOUTING REPORT
SCREEN/ROLL COVERAGE
REPORT
One of the best defensive teams in the NBA. You will face constant ball pressure and very good off the ball rotating players. They switch a lot because. they have a lot of players that can guard multiple positions. Murray, KCP, Braun, Watson are all active defenders that push up on you and want to take space away. They don’t have a ton of shot blocking, but they have very good rim protection because they are high IQ, challenge everything, and live for the ball handler to take tough contested shots. Jokic isn’t athletic and doesn’t move great but he challenges everything, is smart as fuck, and has great hands for deflections and challenges. They are a high switch team also with Jokic, Gordon, and you will even see Zeke Nnaji switch out and pressure the ball. They want you to over dribble and take bad shots. It will be interesting with Vic , Devin, and Sochan with their over dribbling and shot selection what they will do vs them. They want you to take home run shots and hero shots, because stye will just challenge, rebound, and get you in transition.
SCORING ON THEM IN SCREEN ROLL
REPORT
As good as they are with ball pressure and off the ball rotating the only way that you can consistently score agains them is with direct drives to the basket and live in the paint. You cant dribble forever and not go anywhere as they thrive on that and will beat you by 500 points. What they do give up are hard decisive drives to the rim. They challenge and are very disciplined, but still don’t have a ton of shot blocking. You have to be aggressive with your drives, initiate contact , especially against Murray, Gordon, KCP to draw fouls and clear space on your drives. Attack them and keep your dribble. Probing through the paint is fine but just attack them and then keep the dribble to the other side. You have to change your speeds and keep them on the defensive. Moving the ball agains them to get open looks , obviously is an option and I will cover that in the next section, but you have to get to the paint and be a factor. You are one of the only guards on your team with high IQ to attack and have a plan with being efficient at the rim. Expect pressure and swipes at your ball. Use your body to protect and be aggressive with pull ups, shots at the rim, and even though they threaten bodily harm from your front office shoot your fucking floater!!
OPENINGS FOR 3 POINT SHOTS
REPORT
I’m a broken fucking record (do you even know what a record is, I’m fucking old). The ball has to move and you have to live in the paint to draw multiple defenders to kick the ball out. You will have spot up opportunities if the ball moves. On your post ups to Vic, I would relocate to top and ball side corner for kick outs when they double down. You will have transition openings to pull up off the dribble as well as get to corners. I think step ups to drive draw 2 and kick back to Vic or whoever the screener is for open shots. Same way JJ Barea and Dirk played off each other. I think being aggressive on hand offs to get in the paint and skip to the weak side for open shots will be open. It all starts and ends with ball movement and direct drives. Be aggressive looking for your 3PT shot. Your biggest games this year shooting the ball is when you said fuck it and let it fly. There is a big difference between a player who is aggressive and shooting good looks and a ball hogging cunt. I know ou are addicted to making winning plays mostly passing to your teammates, but if they give you space let that mother fucker fly.

Scores in a variety of ways. You’ll see a heavy dose of screen rolls and hand offs for sure. You are going to have to pick him up full and turn him in the backcourt to wear him down. Loves to drive LEFT to the rim and pull ups. Shooting 41% from 3PT, (43% over the last 10. He likes to spot up and relocate off of Jokic Post ups have that in your head if they have you double off of him to get to Jokic. Have to know where he is at all times as he is a threat. Loves to post up, expect him to back you down out of transition or to do it right off a hand off into the post. Stand your ground and don’t go for any spins just keep centered and don’t lunge. Loves you to use fakes and step throughs so stay on your feet. Push up on him and stay connected. Let Jokic and Porter score 70 a piece I don’t give a fuck, with Murray you have to be everywhere with him and contest every shot while staying on the ground. Show hands on every drive as he uses his body very well and loves to initiate contact. Pressure the fuck out of him and late clock when Jokic has the ball do not rest easy as Murray is a huge target late shot clock for spot ups.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Doesn’t commit a ton of turnovers. He does leave his feet a lot on drives and screen roll. You have to be solid and show hands on all of his drives. Especially in screen and rolls you have to show hands and get them in his vision and be aggressive not looking for steals but deflections. I think if you hunt steals they will blow the whistle. I think if you play solid, attached to his hip on drives , and constantly show him pressure and hands you can get him to make mistakes even if it is just bad accuracy on his passes. Ball Pressure, Stay On Your Feet, Active Hands, and Stay Solid as fuck.

I’m not spelling his full name typing that monstrosity will give me anxiety. The only reason why I work with you is you have low letter count on both names. Expect a lot of hand offs and spot ups. Spot ups off of Jokic post ups, or spotting up on roll passes from Jokic/Gordon when the defense sucks in. Doesn’t get too creative with his offense. Expect him in the corners and playing off of hand offs or ball reversal screen rolls.; He loves to fake so stay on the ground with him and contest everything. 39% 3PT shooter, doesn’t waste time/space on a lot of unnecessary bull shit. Stay connected to him when the ball gets to his side for hand offs don’t give him any space and stay on the ground to contest. Efficient player, they use him as a screener and then to pop to the ball right away so stay connected to him and again don’t leave your feet. Show hands on drives and face everything with him to be hard and contested. STAY DOWN ON FAKES!!
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Very low turnover guy, not going to try to do too much. He is lazy with his passes at times so when he is trying to enter the ball in the post or has the ball looking to make a pass show him a ton of pressure and active hands to fuck his vision up. Not a very creative player as far as thinking the game so make things hard on him and give him pressure. He won’t turn the ball over 8 times or anything , but you might be bale to sneak 1-2 in there. Just show him hands and pressure. Hunt deflections and not steals.

Scorer off the bench for them. They run him mostly off screen and rolls, but has a lot of action spotting up as well as hand offs for drives. Above average finisher at the rim likes to attack off hand offs and try to get to the rim. Will spot up on the weak side to wait for catch and shoot 3PT shots from Jokic. Be careful when he is on the slot and passes to the top , usually going to set a back screen on him for a backdoor so you will see that at least one time that game. In a big slump shooting the ball the last 10 games. I think he is much better than that. I don’t think he handles the ball well, but no one ever calls him on it. I would get up on him and show hands to speed him up. He is sneaky with those quick catch and shoot 3PT shots on ball movement and Jokic’s pass from the post.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
You need to pressure the living shit out of him. He’s not a good passer and tends to throw lazy passes. Not many defenders try to pressure him. Non Accurate passers that are pressured is like giving an alcoholic a Bud Light and think they will stop at one. Speed him up and pressure the shit out of him. Show hands on all of his drives and put your hands in his face as much as possible. He isn’t a huge turnover guy but he doesn’t operate well when you push up on him and force him to make passes over a defender pressuring him.

Not a big offensive option. Spots up around the perimeter for ball movement 3PT shots, straight line drives, and cuts when you take your eyes off of him. Steady spot up shooter that has some balls to drive to the rim at times. Average finisher, looking to play off of the defender. Not afraid to shoot or if you closeout at him he will drive you to the rim. Be careful when he is off the ball spaced out as he is an active cutter. 36% 3PT shooter, contest his shots but stay on your feet as he is crafty with the fakes and straight line drives to the rim. Active Cutter keep an eye on that off the ball. Stay down onfakes and show hands on all drives to try to get a deflection
TURNOVERS

Weak Ball Handler. Pressure him anytime he puts the ball not he floor. You should be able to get 2 steals from him. Doesn’t try to do too much with the ball besides advance it up the floor in transition or straight line drive. Push up on him show him active hands on any drives. He will turn the ball over if he is pressured with the ball in his hands trying to make plays.

Spot up 3PT threat. Mostly wants to get to the corners either on a spot up or on the move. Shooting 39.6% from 3PT and mid 40’s from both corners. Contest him and stay on your feet. The one play they run for him they will pop him from the left elbow and flash the big from the block to the wing area and after he has the big they will flare him to the left for a 3PT shot. Stay connected to him even after his passes to fight through the flares. Good shooter run him off the line and show hands. Besides his 3PT shooting he won’t hurt you from much else. Stay on your feet, contest and pressure him. Shooting over 72% at the rim, so when he drives it there he knows that he can get there. If they set a mid screen/roll he is probably going to pull up in the mid range.
