HOUSTON ROCKETS SCOUTING REPORT
SCREEN/ROLL COVERAGE
REPORT
No shot blocking and rim protection. They have very good on the ball defenders that do a good job taking space away from ball handlers. The one weakness as far as on the ball defenders go is Fred VanVleet. Doesn’t move his feet well and can be driven on. Everyone else Green,Brooks,Holiday,Whitmore do a good job staying in front, active hands, and fighting through screens. Sengun, Green, Landale are good positional defenders that contest shots and are smart, but they don’t block shots. Use your screeners and get in the paint to force two on the ball to make plays to teammates. They will give up drive and kick shots , as well as pull ups and floaters. Be aggressive with your dribble and get to the rim. I think you can definitely do damage off of the dribble, just continue to change speeds and be aggressive on your drives. If you hunt great shots, you’ll be successful. I would wear the fuck out of VanVLeet and attack him. I think he will give up drives as well as foul the fuck out of you to keep you from driving past him. Jabari Smith is probably their best athletic rim protector as fat as his ability to keep people in front, have active hands, and try to impact the shot.
SCORING ON THEM IN SCREEN ROLL
REPORT
Two things to attack agains this defense is VanVleet’s inability to keep ball handlers in front of him and Sengun’s inability to impact the ball. You should be able to torture VanVleet on being screened and your drives. Sengun, if he plays up should be attacked all night and get to the rim. He can’t really move his feet like that when he plays up on the ball handler win screen roll. When he plays back , he really cant get to you in the pocket which will open up floaters and pull ups. Once he gets moving in one direction and can’t recover if you change direction with a crossover or anything like that. If he switches on to you line him up and drive the fuck out of him. Don’t waste anytime where they can reswitch and get him out of it. That match up of VanVleet and Sengun need to be attacked. Brooks is their best on the ball defender but dies on screens at times. Keep your dribble and be aggressive , just play out the reads and there will be good shots. Teams that pick up their dribble and are intimidated with they’re on the ball defense and take fucked up shots or cough the ball up are the ones that struggle against them. They play hard as fuck. They aren’t very bright, but they play hard. They will make mistakes, just keep your dribble and exploit them. There will be pull ups, drives to the rim , and floaters for sure against this defense.
OPENINGS FOR 3 POINT SHOTS
REPORT
There will be a ton of drive and kick 3 Point Looks as well as 3 Point Shots in transition on and off of the ball. I think one of their big weaknesses with Sanguine is when you have a big that can shoot when you drive near him and he has to help off to stop ball and then kick to his man for the deep shot. He doesn’t move well so it is hard on him. He plays back against a lot of screen roll/hand offs so if you set them deep enough there will be 3 Point Looks for sure. VanVleet isn’t an athlete and doesn’t closeout to shooters well. You should be able to get all the looks you want.

Here we fucking go again. Another guard that does well because everyone in the NBA follows the rule of don’t pressure anyone and let them get to their spots and then deal with them. VanVleet scores on mis screen roll all night because no one pressures him and decides to guard him right at the screen. He wants to go right mostly on mids and pull up int he mid range or can reject and go left. He likes to pull up behind the screen as well. Terrible finisher shooting in the low 40’s at the rim (41.7%) Push up on him the minute he steps on the floor and don’t let him go anywhere. He’s not a strong ball handler and isn’t explosive going past anyone. He can pull up, he’s a tough prick, and is a decent shooter. Pressure him and turn him in the backcourt. He will pick up his dribble or have a hard time doing much of anything. Contest his shots and active hands anytime he tries to drive. Show the ref your hands and don’t bail him out. If you take him out of the equation with pressure then they will have to get bailed out with Sengun Post Ups & Short rolls and that crazy motherfucker Jalen Green 23 dribble stepback Euro Fade Aways. On Under OOB’s watch that stagger they set on him to get to the ball side corner. Stay connected and contest the fuck out of it. Stay On Your Feet.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
His A/TO is very high mostly because he doesn’t try to do too much with his playmaking. He makes comfortable passes to his teammates and doesn’t make many mistakes….. Until you pressure the fuck out of him. The more pressure you put at him and the more bodies you throw at him he then starts making mistakes. Take space away from him and push up on him to speed up and he will throw the ball away. I am not sold on him as a passer or playmaker when he is being pressured and sped up. Don’t let him breathe.

Inefficient very athletically gifted player. Will see him in a ton of screen/roll, Spot Ups and Isolations. Not overly bright in the least. Will take some really fucked up shots and make some really fucked up plays. On him just let him dribble around long enough to make a mistake. 40% shooter from the field and only 31.8% from 3PT Stay on his hip and show hands on all of his drives. I wouldn’t go under on him on everything even though he shoots low percentages I would just stay on the ground go for no fakes and contest every one of his shots. He wants to make a highlight on every play. Wants to get to his right hand. Average to above average finisher at the rim. Will live on a steady diet of tough contested shots. I wouldn’t pick him up full the whole time, but would show him backcourt pressure from time to time to switch things up. Assist to Turn Over is 1.5, not looking to pass and if he does it might be to someone in the 18th row.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
He’s a pretty good ball handler, but just tries to do too much. He will lose balance, dribble off his foot, or get the ball stripped off the ball. If you opened up his brain there is 90% chance there is a cartoon playing up there without question. The more he has the ball in his hands the tiger chance of a Shaqin the Fool Episode Ready to happen. Just stay on his hip, show hands, and stay on your feet.

You’ll see him in spots ups and hand offs. 38% 3PT shooter. Stay connected to him him and force him to be a driver. Physical, likes to take defenders to that left block on backdown turn arounds or fade aways. Most of his 3PT shots come from the wings on spot ups or hand offs. Stay connected to him and show hands on all of his drives. Stay active with your hands trying to poke the ball from him every time he puts it on the floor. Below average finisher at 52% at the rim. No easy and open looks as he is streaky and don’t want him getting a couple of open looks early.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Not a big turnover guy, but doesn’t have a strong handle. When he drives try to poke at it. If you are off the ball and he drives in your direction try to get at his ball.

They will use him in mostly spotting up and screen roll. Shooting 41% from 3PT. No open looks, make sure you contest everything. Crafty with the ball in his hands not explosive but initiates contact to get those bump jumpers in the paint. Average finisher at best, but has a decent floater. Stay connected to him on his drives and show hands. Off the ball, know where he is because he has a very quick release and will get them up.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Not a strong ball handler. Pressure him when he has the ball. I would pressure him 94 feet as he doesn’t like it. Turn him in the back court and force him to be a little sped up. He’s not a player that likes playing out of his comfort zone. Doesn’t turn the ball over a lot, but again no one really calls him on is ball handling and pressures him.

Terrible shooter. His biggest threat is as a straight line driver and a cutter , preferably from the right corner. I doubt you will match up with him, but there might be crossmatches. I would pressure the shit out of him an force him to put the ball on the floor. Don’t give him an open lane to the rim as he isn’t bad on straight line drives but force him to over dribble he will struggle with that. If you are off the ball guarding him and he is in the corner he will cut to the rim or get to the dunker. He is shooting 14% from 3PT Boban has a better chance of making a 3 than him and he has more commercials than points this season.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Not a high turnover guy. That being said every time he puts it on the floor attack his dribble. He will cough it up. He isn[‘t a good playmaker and if you force him into being one he will make mistakes. Like I said earlier I don’t think you will be guarding him, but there might be a switch or crossmatch in transition.

Physical and aggressive player. Mostly going to spot up, come off hand offs, and get out in the open court in transition. Improving as a shooter, shooting 36% from 3PT. Looking to drive and initiate contact. Make sure you show hands on all of his drives as he is looking to bump immediately. Stay on your feet against him and make sure every shot is contested for sure. Active hands when he puts the ball on the floor. Has a 0.5 Assist To Turnover, he is no John Stockton. Most of his 3PT Shots come from the Wings.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Not a strong ball handler. Have to attack his handle anytime he puts the ball on the floor. He is very loose with the ball in his hands.
