GAME REPORT
The game itself was pretty much a full fledged blowout. Kyrie controlled the game from start to finish as he finished with 29 PTS ON 12-19 SHOOTING 5/7 3PT WITH 6 REBOUNDS & 5 ASSISTS & 3 STEALS. With Kevin Durant out, he made sure that the Nets didn’t miss a beat. He put up 29 points without going to the Free Throw Line. We will go over the ways that he scored, but he was aggressive and as usual got into the paint at will.
OFFENSE
Irving scored in so many different ways. What makes him so hard to guard as he can do it on the ball in pick and rolls/isolation as well as off the ball with spot ups, catch & drive, as well as coming off of pin downs. He Was aggressive getting to the rim on drives, screen rolls, & creating space off of jab/drives. With his 3PT shot falling the way it did, he was able to open up his drives as well. when he is aggressive like this there is nothing you can do. Notice how he uses his body on drives to clear more space and he just plays off of his defender. so many Pg’ can only score when they have the ball in their hand Kyrie finds ways to score other than just pick and rolls and isolation. Tonight he was hard to beat and he was aggressive in the open court as well.
PASSING
Made some easy plays to his teammates, just giving the ball up early in transition or just spotting a teammate cutting. He made a great play coming off a pin down where he engaged not only his own man trying to guard him coming off the pin, but also engaging the screener’s (Jarrett Allen’) man to make the right read. Also he made a good play cross court, when he say his man was sucked in on the weak side. Irving likes to dominate the ball a lot, but tonight he let the ball go early on some plays and his team got easier looks.
ACTIVITY
When guards get active with their hands and play on the ball , or just are heads up they can come up with steals. Irving has a high basketball IQ and knows where the hot zones are to get involved in a play to get steals. He came up with 3 tonight , on nothing but hustle and smart heads up plays on the court.
