I wanted to write about this topic to cover post up offense for wing players. Kawhhi Leonard is the closest thing to Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant that you will find on the block. The way that he uses his body and physicality for backdowns as well as his shooting and skill on his face ups. He is a perfect player to emulate if you have size, can shoot, and not afraid to be physical,
SCOUTING
The first thing that comes to mind is his philosophy. Like Kobe/MJ, Kawhi uses his backdown package on smaller players to bully them for deep post shots and/or fouls. His ability o use his length, strength, and size gives him an unbelievable advantage over defenders. He can use either hand as well as finish with an array of shots. With bigger players he will face up and shoot the ball or use his jabs and fakes to get the defender off balance and drive to the basket. He has great feet to create space for his jumper or will get the bigger player off balance and use his setback to create separation
CLOSING
I’m always about simplicity when it comes to the post and footwork in general. Kawhi is strictly business when it comes to the post. He sizes up his defender and makes a read on the defender when he sees how they are guarding him. He’ll go to a move and if there is space he will take a shot, if they take something away from him he will do something else. I think Leonard is.a great player to emulate for any young wing player or a coach looking to teach their wings how to post.
