PHOENIX SUNS SCOUTING REPORT
SCREEN/ROLL COVERAGE
REPORT
They don’t have a ton of shot blocking, but Nurkic is a solid rim protector and is their best shot blocking option. Grayson Allen and Booker will give an effort on the ball and funnel you into Nurkic. They do a good job at getting to the hip and forcing the ball handler in one position. Durant gets away with a lot with his size and length and can challenge shots and get blocks because of it. Bradley Beal dies on almost every screen and needs to be attacked. They have good switch guys with Durant and O’Neale as they have size/length and they challenge shots. You will have opportunities to score at the rim and I’ll get into it in the next section of this report. Be overly aggressive with creating contact coming off screens. Especially with Durant create contact to clear space and draw contact/fouls. This can improve your angle on drives. If you go wide on Durant/O’Neale getting to the rim will be rougher. They give good energy and challenge perimeter shots off of rotations. Use your fakes when you are off the ball. Bol Bol is 40 feet tall and long as fuck , but he weighs 98 pounds if you weighed him after Thanksgiving Dinner so be physical with him on switches.
SCORING ON THEM IN SCREEN ROLL
REPORT
Keep your dribble in screen and roll and be aggressive looking to score. I think there will be plenty of shots at the rim on finishes at the rim as well as floaters. Spread them out I would set that screen deeper and attack the paint off the dribble. Nurkic can be scored on with floaters or forcing him to get away from the rim and move his feet. He is an average/above average shot blocker at best. On your drives initiate contact and be focused on hitting every motherfucker that gets on your hip on drives. Use your hand offs, pitches to bigs and cut off them get Nurkic/Eubanks/Bol backing up in the paint to open up floaters and paint pull ups. You can draw fouls especially on Durant/Bol/Beal with initiating contact, that should be a big part of your attack. I think if you can draw fouls consistently that can get some air out of their sails and can keep the game close. If the game is filled with ball stopping and isolation bullshit you guys will get rocked. You keep the ball moving and attack them consistently being physical on drives you a stay in the game long enough to get hot and a little lucky. Should be a high number floater night (3-4).
OPENINGS FOR 3 POINT SHOTS
REPORT
Bottom 1/3 of the NBA in defending the 3PT shot. They will give up their share , even though they are good at contesting the shot. Be aggressive on spot ups doing your shot prep early ready to shoot on the catch. They will challenge but you can definitely get 3-4 spot up opportunities on your corner catch and shoot. The ball needs to move and you need to drive in the paint. They are like every other opponent in that respect. Get to your spots early in transition and sprint to that corner. I want to see more ball fakes on your catches to see if it shifts the defense. They will give up 3’s, but the ball needs to consistently get in the paint. Like I said try backing your screener up to spread them out to open up paint drives. Also keep giving it to Vic on the trail.

REPORT
Scores in so many different ways. Screen Roll/ISO/Hand Off/Spot up. Pick him up 94 feet and keep him away from the middle of the floor. Get to him in the back court as many times as possible and make it hard on him to wear him down. In transition pick him up at half court and make it hard for him to get to his spots. On wing Closeouts, force him to the baseline and keep him out of the middle. Stay down on all fakes and show hands on drives. Don’t bail him out with fouls 25 feet from the basket so stay down and contest every shot. He needs to see constant ball pressure, constant hands on every shot and solid defense and staying attached to his hip. Make him earn every fucking basket and keep him off the free throw line. Don’t go for any fakes and stay solid. Finishes at 65%, but takes a lot of fucked up contested 3’s. No open looks.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Not a big turnover guy as far as certain situations. He is a lazy passer and will throw a fucked up pass like hanging crosscourt or a mistimed post entry. I think you can impact steals on him more off the ball being ready for him to throw a pass in your direction. I think you can get him 1-2 times with constant full court pressure. Stay solid and show hands constantly 94 feet.

Shares ball handling duties with Booker. Will see him in a lot of pick and rolls. Not overly explosive off the dribble, but is a strong ball handler. Besides screen/rolls you’ll see him in spot ups as well as hand offs. Always looking to get offensive going with him. Most frequent spot to shoot 3PT shots is the left wing. Solid finisher at 64% at the rim. Push up on him and show hands on drives. Don’t make him comfortable by giving him space. Stay on your feet and contest his shots. Push up on pick and roll and don’t give him space. He is physical off the dribble so don’t have your hands down on his drives unless you are going after the dribble with a swipe. Stay on balance not lunging and contest every shot. I would pick him up with constant pressure in the backcourt and half court in transition when you can’t pick him up full court. Stay down on his fakes after drives as well, he likes to step through.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Push up on him and look for deflections. Constantly have active hands when he is dribbling, picking up his dribble, or on the catch. He will throw 1-2 away or get it deflected. Do not let him see total opening when you are guarding him. Constantly try to get at his basketball, as well as show hands in passing lane. Mess with his vision and rhythm as much as you can.

Juggernaut as a shooter. Spots up 50% of his offense which is one of the biggest in the league. Shooting 48.5% from the 3PT line. You have to know where he is at all times. Don’t give him any space to shoot the ball at all. Can put the ball on the floor, better than he looks. Finishing at the rim at 60%. Changes speeds off the dribble pretty well. Can shoot the ball on the catch as well as on the move. Hot shooting from every 3PT spot, especially in the left corner where he is shooting 58%. Every shot he takes needs to be contested and stay connected on his movements off the ball, as he can relocate and shoot in a heartbeat. Contest everything active hands. Anytime he gets in screen roll take space away and push up, keep giving him jabs at the ball to frustrate him, but again a big number of possessions he will be off the ball. He does set screens and tries to space for quick 3’s so if you are on him and have to help off his screen, make it quick and get out to him.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Cheapshotting prick (typical Duke asshole haha), watch for elbows on drives when you are guarding him as well as cheap screens. Actively try to steal the ball from him in the half court. Active hands at every opportunity.

You probably won’t face him much on defense, but could be switched on to him and rolled to the post. He loves the backdown from both blocks to turn around for jumpers or half spins. In the post keep your ground, he will want to back you down to the middle for his turn around. Contest everything , but don’t send him to the line. Make him earn his baskets and hold your ground on his backdowns. He sometimes exposes the ball on his post ups if you can get a swipe fine, but be careful.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Exposes the ball a lot and can be back tapped. In transition, in pick and roll, on drives he exposes the ball and you can get a tip at the ball. You can get to it, just focus and be patient.

Spot ups, hand offs, and straight line drives. 40% 3PT shooter. Need to know where he is at all times and contest. Don’t lunge at him and lose balance as he will drive you. He is a solid straight line driver and finisher. He can shoot off the move as well as on spot ups. Don’t give him space and time to shoot. Show hands on his drives and take his space away. On screen rolls push up on him and try to force him to pick up the dribble. Not shy so stay on your feet and contest everything.

Spot up threat on the perimeter. 37% 3PT shooter and can straight line drive for his floater. Solid player, you probably won’t guard him much but when you do contest everything and stay on your feet. If he drives you show hands and expect that floater.
