NEW ORLEANS PELICANS SCOUTING REPORT
SCREEN/ROLL COVERAGE
REPORT
A very effective defensive team. Their perimeter players pressure the ball and take away space very well. Trey Murphy, Daniels, and Alvarado are their top perimeter defenders. Not a great shot blocking team, but Valanciunas is active in their coverages switching on to ball handlers and contesting jumpshots or shots at the rim. They do a very good job at rotating out to shooters after the ball handler drives and kicks for spot up players. Nance moves his feet very well on switches to the ball handler. Be alert of Jones off ball trying to get blocks. He is long and very active. Naji Marshall comes in off the bench as a backup 3/4 and is a very good on the ball defender as well. They have a lot of size and length on the wings. McCollum does a good job pressuring the ball as well, but can be attacked. They are a top 10 defensive team in the NBA, 4th in the League at Defensive FG% (46%) and #1 in The NBA in Defensive 3PT FG% at (34.6%)
SCORING ON THEM IN SCREEN ROLL
REPORT
To consistently score agains them in Screen/Roll you have to concentrate on the rim. That means maximizing the space that Valanciunas has to cover on switching. Have your screener’s set their screens deeper out and force their bigs to move their feet. If Zion plays you have to get him in as many screen/rolls as possible because he doesn’t like to guard on the ball and will be their weakness for sure. He hurt his finger Wednesday Night, so it is unclear if he will play or not a he missed a lot of the 4th Quarter. If he plays get him in as many as possible as you will be able to live in the paint. Get your screener’s to hit McCollum on screens as he will die on them. Attack the paint and live at the rim. You should be able to get 4-5 shots at the rim if you are aggressive and put your focus on it. They do a good job forcing the first tough shot in coverage, but if you can get multiple drives on possessions and space the floor effectively you should be able to get good looks.
OPENINGS FOR 3 POINT SHOTS
REPORT
They won’t give up easy looks as they are #1 in the NBA at Opponent 3PT%. The ball needs to move and there needs to be a ton of extra passes (I know you motherfucker’s aren’t going to move the ball, but I like wasting my time saying it) They cover the drive kick pretty well to get to shooters or contest them, but if you can drive kick to an extra pass there will be shots to get. Most of your 3’s will be contested , but you can get shots against them. Get to your corner early on the break and be aggressive looking for a transition 3PT shot or two.

Efficient scorer. Will see him mostly in Screen/Roll, Spot Ups, & Hand Offs. He never stops moving, always trying to come off a pin down or a hand off. Have to stay connected to him and make him work for every shot that he takes. Show hands on all of his drives and don’t give him easy looks. Looking to drive left, most of his shots off the dribble will be pop up jumpshots. He does a great job setting up his pins/hand offs by changing speeds and sprinting into them at the last second. Push up into him on screen rolls and show hands in the pocket to force him into tough passes. Know where he is at all times off the ball for drive kicks to him for spot ups. Average finisher at best, more of a jumpshot threat than someone who is going to finish at will in the paint. Loves shooting the stepback going left. Shooting 41% from 3PT
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Not a strong ball handler. Has problems in tight spaces so constantly be attacking his dribble and try to get deflections and swipes. On screen roll I would try to get a couple of back taps as he is susceptible ( yeah I used susceptible in a sentence fucking deal with it) to back taps. Stay connected to him and show hands. Not a great playmaker and struggles with over dribbling trying to make plays off the drive. Show hands and constantly add pressure to him. I would try picking him up full court and then keep the pressure going in the half court.

Will get his shots mostly off of spot ups and hand offs not a close second. Gets his shots on drive and kicks spotted up on the perimeter. Stay down on his fakes , can take the ball off the dribble 1-2 dribbles for pull ups. Effective finisher, mostly when he gets run off the line. Good floater, smart player. Have to know where he is on the floor. Not a knock down shooter, but shoots 37% on almost 8 attempts per game. Can shoot the ball on the standstill as well as on the move. Contest everything and stay connected to him on hand offs. Mostly shoots from the wings, most efficient spots are left corner and top.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
He can get ripped off the dribble. Has a hard time not getting ripped when a defender pressures him and swipes at his ball. When you are off ball and he drives in your direction take a chance on swiping at him to see if you can get a steal. Stay connected to him and show hands. Take his space away from him and pressure him constantly.

Spot up player, has a nice looking shot but inconsistent shooter. Shooting 37% from the 3PT Line, but only in the 20’s in the last 10. Second Unit spot up player. They run him off pins and hand offs as well. Doesn’t handle the ball a lot. Below average finisher, mostly catches and shoots or straight line drives when they run him off the line. I think he’s good enough of a shooter to make sure you make an effort to contest him. Stay on your feet for his fakes and stay solid. Below average finisher shooting under 48% at the rim in limited attempts.
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Doesn’t handle pressure well. Push up on him and show hands on everything to force him into pressure situations. Not a big turnover guy , but can’t handle pressure. Push up on him and force him out of his comfort zone.

Spot up guard, mostly a straight line drive and cutting option. Streaky shooter, only shooting 28% from 3PT , but shooting 50% in the last 10 games, very small sample size. Solid finisher, does most of his damage at the rim with his drives and cuts. Good size and plays physical. Has been hurt off an on for the past 6 weeks or so. He is aggressively looking to get to the basket. If he has enough time/space he can make shots=, but just struggles with inconsistency. Most of his drives go to his left hand, but wants to get back to his right hand..
TURNOVERS
REPORT
Not a big turnover guy. Just pressure him, show hands on all drives. No lunges to lose balance to open up driving lanes for him. Bring him into the help and force him to finish over size. Not a particularly strong ball handler. If you see him handling far from the basket pressure him and force him to pick it up. More of an off the ball player, which is strange because he is a PG.

Spot up player and straight line drive threat. Shooting 42% from the 3PT line. You probably won’t match up with him, but could be a cross match situation. Shooting 56% from the right corner. Contest everything and stay on your feet has a decent floater and carries himself well on straight line drives. Mostly an off the ball spot up player, not running many plays to him unless if it is on a hand off or pin down situation. Stay connected to him on all hand offs and just stay connected to the hip and show the ref hands .
TURNOVERS

Low turnover guy. Not a great ball handler, but doesn’t expose the ball much he is a pretty simple player offensively.

LISTED AS OUT BUT WHO THE FUCK KNOWS:Spot Ups and Screen Rolls, mostly off the ball. He is in the game for energy on the defensive end and in transition. Mostly just spots up off of Ingram/Zion/Valanciunas. 39% 3PT shooter, not a good finisher. Has a decent floater and uses fakes to open up the drive to get to it. Finishing at 48% at the rim. Make sure you contest and get a hand up while staying on the ground.
